EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — A fire that broke out in a first-floor apartment on Burnside Avenue early Wednesday is being investigated as suspicious, according to East Hartford fire officials.
Crews responded to the 300 block of Burnside Avenue around 2:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke in a hallway, officials said. Firefighters arrived approximately four minutes later and found a fire contained to a single first-floor unit.
The flames were knocked down quickly, with the East Hartford Fire Department reporting that the fire was extinguished within minutes.
One person was transported to the hospital. The extent of their injuries remains unknown. No other injuries were reported, and damage was limited to the unit where the fire originated. The occupant of that apartment is the only individual displaced.
Officials said the circumstances surrounding the fire are considered suspicious. The investigation is ongoing and is being led jointly by the East Hartford Fire Department and Connecticut State Police.
Authorities have not released the name of the injured individual or details about the cause of the fire.
