FDA Investigates Death Linked to Recalled Mushroom-Infused Chocolates

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating a death potentially linked to recalled mushroom-infused chocolates and gummies from the Diamond Shruumz brand. This development follows multiple reports of severe adverse reactions, prompting an urgent recall and warning to consumers nationwide.

The FDA, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has urged consumers to avoid consuming any flavors of Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies. On June 10, 2024, the FDA and CDC began investigating reports of illnesses linked to Diamond Shruumz products. As of July 6, 2024, a total of 48 illnesses have been reported across 24 states, with 10 cases requiring hospitalization. The onset of these illnesses dates back to June 9, 2024. Symptoms reported include seizures, central nervous system depression, abnormal heart rates, hypertension or hypotension, and nausea​​.
