Shelton, CT – A woman was rushed to a trauma center after being extricated from a vehicle following a two-car crash Wednesday, Feb. 19 on Huntington Street, according to the Shelton Fire Department.
Emergency crews responded to the crash near 180 Huntington St. at 9:59 p.m. and found a front-seat passenger trapped inside one of the vehicles.
According to the authorities, firefighters from Companies 3 and 5 worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle while members of Engine 32 used hydraulic cutters and spreaders to remove the car door, completing the extrication in about five minutes.
Emergency medical personnel transported the woman to a local trauma facility for treatment.
The driver of the same vehicle was also taken to the hospital, though the extent of their injuries was not immediately known, officials said.
The second vehicle involved had a sole occupant, who declined medical attention.
Firefighters with Engine 52 cleared hazards from the scene before responders wrapped up operations.
A total of 16 firefighters operated under the command of Deputy Chief Wilson and Operations Officer Captain LeStrange.
Authorities thanked dispatchers for providing detailed information to prepare crews ahead of arrival.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
