AVON, CT— Police in Avon have arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with a vandalism case involving a swastika drawn on a parked Tesla Model Y, as stated Tuesday, April 15.
The incident occurred on the night of March 26 in a parking lot on West Avon Road.
According to authorities, the vehicle was left unattended around 8 p.m. when the suspect allegedly used a black permanent marker to deface the driver’s side door with a swastika. The Tesla’s built-in security camera system captured the act.
Investigators reviewed the footage and identified a local Avon resident as the individual responsible. Police said the man later admitted to drawing the symbol. According to the arrest record, he stated that “he was upset with the current political climate in the country.”
The man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and breach of peace. His name was not immediately released.
The case remains active as police review the incident under existing hate crime statutes. The defaced vehicle and footage were key to the swift identification and arrest, police noted.
