American rapper Travis Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, was arrested early Thursday morning at Miami Beach Marina. According to official records and a report by BBC Newsbeat, Scott was detained on suspicion of disorderly intoxication and trespassing following an altercation on a yacht. The Miami Beach Police Department’s arrest report indicates that officers responded to reports of a fight on the vessel around 01:45 local time.
Upon arrival, officers found Scott shouting at people on the yacht. They noted a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and instructed him to leave the dock. Although Scott initially complied, he walked backward while yelling obscenities at the yacht’s occupants. He left the area but returned five minutes later, attempting to reboard the yacht. When confronted again, Scott disregarded the officers’ commands, became erratic, and disturbed local residents, leading to his arrest.
Scott, a ten-time Grammy Award nominee and one of the most prominent figures in hip-hop, admitted to consuming alcohol during the incident, reportedly stating, “It’s Miami.” This arrest adds to the rapper’s controversial history, which includes the tragic Astroworld festival in Houston in 2021, where a crowd surge resulted in the deaths of ten fans. While Scott did not face criminal charges for the incident, he is still involved in ongoing civil cases against the festival organizers.
Scott’s arrest comes just days before the start of his European tour, which kicks off in the Netherlands on June 28. His tour includes a performance in London and a show at the Co-op Live venue in Manchester on July 13. Despite his legal troubles, Scott continues to be a major influence in the music industry, with his latest album “Utopia” achieving significant success.
