Storrs, CT – Geno Auriemma, head coach of the UConn women’s basketball team, has been named a semifinalist for the 2025 Werner Ladder Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday, March 13.
In his 40th season, Auriemma has guided the Huskies to a 31-3 record, including a perfect 18-0 mark in BIG EAST play.
UConn claimed both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles, adding to Auriemma’s extensive legacy.
UConn has now completed an undefeated conference season for the 19th time under Auriemma, securing the program’s 31st regular season championship and 30th tournament title.
He was also named BIG EAST Co-Coach of the Year this season.
On Nov. 20, Auriemma became college basketball’s all-time winningest coach, now holding a career record of 1,244-165 (.833).
The Huskies have recorded 28 seasons with at least 30 wins in the past 32 years.
UConn also played the sixth toughest schedule in the nation, the highest for a non-Power 4 program. Auriemma is the only coach on the 10-person semifinalist list from outside a Power 4 school.
Auriemma is an eight-time Naismith Coach of the Year recipient, the most in the award’s history. Vanderbilt head coach Shea Ralph, a UConn alumna and former assistant, was also named a semifinalist.
UConn will learn its NCAA Tournament path during the Selection Show on Sunday at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
