WILLIMANTIC, CT — Willimantic Police have addressed public confusion and online rumors regarding an incident outside the Elks Club on April 10.
Contrary to reports circulating on social media, the event did not involve a firearm but rather a BB gun.
According to police, a verbal dispute between two individuals escalated during a private gathering.
One individual left the area briefly, retrieved a CO2-powered BB gun from a backpack, and fired seven rounds at the windshield of an unoccupied vehicle.
Shortly afterward, the suspect voluntarily turned themselves in and admitted to firing the BB gun.
The individual is currently in custody and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
“Willimantic Police want to reassure the public that the situation was contained quickly and nothing more than a BB gun was involved,” the department stated.
Officials emphasized that no injuries occurred and that the investigation remains closed with the suspect in custody. Police have not released the name of the individual at this time.
The department issued the clarification to correct misinformation and reduce community concern about the nature of the incident.
